In December 2025, the archaeological research of the Akve Kalide - Thermopolis archaeological complex, funded by Burgas Municipality, was completed.

The main stage of the research, conducted in July-September, revealed the northeastern part of the Roman and early Byzantine bath, continuing the work from 2022. The research reached the Turkish bath and modern buildings.

Despite the difficulties associated with groundwater, significant results were achieved. Brick floor levels were uncovered around an ancient and medieval pool, a water facility, as well as new elements from the northern arm of the early Byzantine bath.

Elements of a medieval church have also been discovered, as well as a rich medieval cultural layer with ceramics, coins, seals, and bone material. The most important discovery is part of a Roman marble pool.

A field survey, related to a planned outdoor pool, confirmed a medieval cultural layer from the 11th-13th centuries.

The finds include coins, medieval lead seals, Byzantine ceramics from the 10th-13th centuries. A seal of Patrician Nicholas, of a strategos, and of Tsar Peter has been found. Persian celadon from the 12th century has been discovered, as well as a coin of Emperor Leo VI. Ancient coins (Mesambria and Apollonia Pontica) and coins of Alexius I Komnenos (1081-1118 AD), as well as from the 20s-30s of the 13th century, have been found.

The research shows that Akve Kalide was used and rebuilt for centuries, with ancient, Byzantine, Bulgarian, and Ottoman stages. The archaeological structures are affected by later construction activities.
