Today, January 27th, we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day and pay tribute to the millions of victims who perished in one of the darkest periods in human history, whose lessons remain relevant today.

Respect for the victims obliges us not only to remember, but also to act – to oppose hatred, intolerance, and discrimination in all their forms. Anti-Semitism continues to be a threat today. Therefore, Bulgaria consistently and categorically condemns all its manifestations and works actively to prevent them.

History reminds us that even in the darkest moments, humanity can prevail. The rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War remains a shining example of moral courage and solidarity – an example that still inspires our efforts to protect human rights and human dignity today.

Bulgaria will continue to be an active participant in international initiatives to combat anti-Semitism, hate speech, and all forms of xenophobia. Our country remains firmly committed to building a world in which crimes like the Holocaust would never be possible again.

The Diplomatic Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the "Hebrew Studies" program at the Faculty of History of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", organized a commemorative ceremony in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Deputy Minister Nikolay Berievski took part in it, who lit a memorial candle dedicated to the Righteous Among the Nations – those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.
