The caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov announced a measure to support citizens with incomes up to twice the poverty line (around 781 euros) who own a car and have paid their taxes and fines. They will receive 20 euros directly into their accounts.
Criteria for receiving the aid:
- Income up to twice the poverty line.
- Ownership of a car or leasing.
- Paid taxes and fines.
The money will be transferred directly to the citizens' accounts, without the need to submit applications. The measure will be activated in March and will continue as long as fuel prices remain high.
The calculations provide for between 20 and 30 million euros for this support, provided from the budget. Gyurov stressed that the measures are aimed at supporting citizens, and not at “helicopter money” that would distort the market.
Gyurov noted that the increase in fuel prices in Bulgaria is the lowest in Europe.
