Solemn celebration of the 147th anniversary of the establishment of the Naval Forces
This week, Bulgaria marks the 147th anniversary of the establishment of the Naval Forces. The Ministry of Defense has prepared a packed program that covers the cities of Ruse, Burgas, and Varna.
The history of the Naval Forces began on August 12, 1879, in Ruse with the founding of the Danube Flotilla, composed of 11 ships gifted by Russia.
Highlights of the festive program:
- Ruse: Start of the festivities with military rituals and a festive concert on August 4.
- Burgas: Wreath-laying rituals and concerts on August 5.
- Varna: The culmination of the holiday will be in Varna with awards ceremonies, static displays of equipment, and a solemn concert-assembly on August 8.
Open days and equipment
Citizens and guests of Varna and Burgas will have the opportunity to view military ships and armament on August 8 and 9. On Sunday, August 9, the solemn commissioning of the graduates of the N. Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy is also scheduled.
The Naval Forces holiday is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday of August, commemorating the beginning of the Bulgarian Navy and the feat of the first sailors.
