A winter storm hits the mountains of Southwestern Bulgaria, burying Rila and Pirin in snow. Photos on Facebook have appeared showing that a thick snow cover has already formed on the peaks of Cherni Vrah and around the Aleko hut. A similar picture is observed in the area of the Zlatni Mostove hut.
According to the weather forecasts, the precipitation will continue over the next 48 hours. A red code for heavy rainfall has been issued for today in three regions - Blagoevgrad, Smolyan and Pazardzhik. The rest of the country is under yellow and orange codes.
The synoptic picture shows that it will be cloudy and foggy in the mountains, with snow falling above 1800 meters above sea level. There will also be a strong northwesterly wind.
