Analysis of data from the Rating System of Higher Education Institutions in Bulgaria reveals that around 21% of all students in the country are studying in professional fields that prepare personnel for the teaching profession. This trend has been maintained over the past 3 years.

According to the latest data for 2024, in 6 professional fields, the largest share of graduates become teachers. These are "Pedagogy", "Pedagogy of Teaching in...", "Theory and Management of Education", "Philosophy", "Philology" and "History and Archaeology". In another 5 fields, the profession of "teacher" is the second most common among graduates, namely "Religion and Theology", "Mathematics", "Earth Sciences", "Sports" and "Music and Dance Arts". The total number of active students in these fields is close to 38,000, which represents 21% of all students in the country.

The "Pedagogy" field is the second largest in Bulgaria after "Economics", with over 16,000 students. The average grade of first-year students in this field is 5.02, placing it between "Economics" (5.09) and "Administration and Management" (4.96). Nearly 60% of graduates in "Pedagogy" over the past 5 years work as teachers, mainly in primary and preschool education.

In the "Pedagogy of Teaching in..." field, over 8,400 students are studying, preparing for specialized teaching positions in various subjects and stages of school education. Nearly 50% of graduates in this field over the past 5 years have worked as teachers.

The "Theory and Management of Education" field is one of the smallest in the country, with only 338 students. Nevertheless, 94% of graduates work in positions requiring higher education, with 70% working as teachers and 17% as managers.

The teaching profession is most common among graduates of three out of four fields in the humanities - "Philology" (34%), "Philosophy" (31%) and "History and Archaeology" (17%). In five other fields, such as "Mathematics", "Sports", "Music and Dance Arts", "Earth Sciences" and "Religion and Theology", it is the second most popular among graduates.

Data from the Rating System show that in 2024, the average insurance income of graduates in pedagogical fields increased by 15-16% compared to the previous year, after the largest increase in specialties in the field of healthcare.

The Rating System of higher education institutions in Bulgaria has been updated in 2024 on the order of the Ministry of Education and Science, in order to assist prospective students in their informed choice of study.
