Updated Support Program for Ukrainians with Temporary Protection Comes into Effect in Bulgaria

As of May 1, 2025, Bulgaria is implementing a renewed humanitarian program focused on long-term support and integration of Ukrainians under temporary protection.

Since May 1, 2025, an updated Humanitarian Support and Integration Program has been in effect in Bulgaria for displaced persons from Ukraine granted temporary protection. The program emphasizes long-term integration through access to employment, education, and social assistance. All Ukrainian nationals with valid temporary protection registration cards are entitled to one-time accommodation for up to 60 calendar days. Those belonging to one or more risk groups (as defined in Section V of the Program) may qualify for extended support until March 4, 2026. Ukrainians already accommodated under the previous program (Resolution 377/2022) by April 30, 2025, may remain in place for up to 60 days, but no later than June 30, 2025, without needing to reapply. New arrivals and those not previously included must go through the Territorial Reception Center in Elhovo for assessment and accommodation placement. Anyone identifying as part of a risk group must submit a completed “Assessment Form” and relevant documentation to their local Social Assistance Directorate by May 31, 2025. Details on the program, eligible groups, application process, and required documents are available (in Bulgarian and Ukrainian) here: Агенция за социалне подпомагане
