Strengthening the long-standing ties between Bulgaria and Chile

On June 5, 2025, Deputy Foreign Minister Nikolai Pavlov met with the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Bulgaria, Julio Bravo. During the meeting, high appreciation was expressed for the 90-year-old traditionally friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. The possibilities for strengthening the Bulgarian-Chilean partnership were discussed, including the upcoming political consultations between the two foreign ministries in Sofia in July 2025. Positive expectations were expressed that these consultations will outline specific guidelines for strengthening bilateral relations through intensifying political dialogue, promoting trade and economic cooperation, and deepening interaction in other areas of mutual interest.

The excellent prospects for the development of the privileged partnership between the European Union and Chile were also highlighted, especially in the light of the EU-Chile Advanced Framework Agreement signed in December 2023. The two countries expressed satisfaction with their fruitful cooperation within international organizations and mutual support for candidacies. The Chilean side confirmed its readiness to support Bulgaria on its path to accession to the OECD.

Deputy Minister Pavlov confirmed Bulgaria's gratitude for Chile's valuable support for Bulgarian expeditions to Antarctica.
