The National Revenue Agency (NRA), the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) and the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) signed an agreement for enhanced cooperation and coordination in order to prevent unjustified price increases during the transition to the euro. The institutions are joining efforts to monitor key commodity groups and impose strict sanctions against abuses.

The heads of the three state authorities - Rumen Spetsov, Rosen Karadimov and Maria Filipova, signed a document that regulates increased joint control and coordination in the process of introducing the euro in Bulgaria. The agreement aims to guarantee calm and confidence that the interests of citizens and honest businesses will be protected.

The cooperation covers all sectors of the economy, with a focus on areas of high social importance - food, fuels, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, e-commerce and financial services. Since the beginning of June, over 150 commercial sites in over 30 cities have been inspected, with the teams examining 14 main groups of goods, and the scope will be expanded.

Rumen Spetsov, Executive Director of the National Revenue Agency, stated that the main goal is to prevent unjustified price increases and that the inspections will continue long enough to guarantee calm and protection of citizens' interests. Where poor business practices are found, they will be strictly sanctioned.

Maria Filipova, Chairperson of the Consumer Protection Commission, described the inspections as unprecedented in scope and frequency, and called on traders to use the correct samples for displaying prices in leva and euros. The Consumer Protection Commission is also working on a mobile application that will allow consumers to check the correct calculation of prices.

Rosen Karadimov, Chairman of the Commission for Protection of Competition, emphasized that the synchronization of the actions of the three institutions provides comprehensive protection for consumers and producers. He announced that the Commission for Protection of Competition is starting a preliminary investigation into the existence of a cartel in connection with increased eco-taxes, which has been reported by the Association of Industrial Capital in Bulgaria.

The three institutions warned that anyone who tries to take advantage of the situation with the introduction of the euro will face the full power of the state.
