Heavy incident with scooter: Young man from Sandanski saved after critical weeks

Experts from the leading emergency medical facility in Bulgaria reported successfully overcoming the critical phase in treating the young patient who suffered an extremely severe traumatic brain injury.

According to official information from the clinic, the victim was admitted in an extremely risky condition - unconscious and with multiple injuries caused by an electric vehicle incident.

Dr. Valery Plachkov, head of the intensive care unit, emphasized the exceptional complexity of the case: "Upon admission, the young man was in a coma, with signs of an isolated severe traumatic brain injury. Mechanical ventilation was immediately applied, with the entire period being associated with a high risk to his life".

Medical specialists revealed that the patient had suffered a skull fracture and significant brain hemorrhage. Despite the critical beginning, experts managed to stabilize his condition after more than a month of intensive care.

Dr. Stefan Ovnarsky from the pediatric neurosurgery department shared a concerning statistic: "Currently, we have a total of five children with severe traumatic brain injuries caused by electric vehicle incidents. Their ages range between 11 and 18 years, with most of them not wearing protective helmets".

The expert emphasized that none of the children were admitted with minor injuries, which raises serious questions about the safety of scooters among minors.

Medical specialists warn that the young man is expected to go through a prolonged and challenging recovery period. He is anticipated to have some cognitive and motor difficulties in the coming months.

This case is yet another proof of the need for stricter rules and control over the use of electric vehicles by young people, especially without the necessary protective equipment.

Last year's statistics further confirm the alarming trend - a 14-year-old girl has already lost her life in a similar scooter incident.

Medical authorities urgently call for increased attention and responsibility from parents and young people when using such vehicles.
