Employees of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime have detained two Turkish citizens under a European arrest warrant issued by the Greek authorities. The detention was carried out in the Svilengrad region after receiving information from Thessaloniki about the involvement of the detainees in a criminal organization and the commission of serious crimes in Greece. Their extradition to the neighboring country is pending.

As a result of information received from the organized crime service in Thessaloniki, the Bulgarian police officers from GDBOP immediately took large-scale actions to establish the whereabouts of the two wanted Turkish citizens. The operation was carried out in the Svilengrad area shortly after midnight on June 2 against June 3.

In a short time, the officers of the "Counter-Terrorism" department of GDBOP and the Haskovo service sector managed to locate the two men, as well as the vehicle with which they entered Bulgaria. They were detained on the basis of Art. 72, para. 1, item 6 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Act.

The detained persons are members of a criminal organization who have committed serious criminal offenses, including against law enforcement officers in Greece. The materials of the initiated proceedings have been reported to the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo, and the extradition of the two Turkish citizens to the neighboring country is forthcoming.
