According to information from Russian aviation sources, at least two foreign airlines have already requested to reroute routes from the "Sheremetyevo", "Domodedovo" and "Vnukovo" airports to "Pulkovo" in St. Petersburg. The reason is the unstable air situation around Moscow, which imposes almost daily restrictions on airspace as a result of attacks with Ukrainian UAVs. In combination with this, the growing interest in international flights from St. Petersburg is accelerating the process.
According to experts in the aviation sector, the redirection of flights to St. Petersburg will not be convenient for passengers from central and southern Russia, but this is considered an inevitable measure due to the dangerous situation in Moscow's airspace. The tourism industry warns that in the future, the total number of flights from Russia may be reduced, as well as changes in departure times, including a shift towards the daytime part of the day. A transition to larger aircraft with less frequent flights is also possible.
In May, the capital's airports were closed multiple times a day, leading to serious delays, diversions and chaos in the terminals. Ukrainian forces are showing the ability to carry out deep air strikes, forcing the enemy to invest in the defense of its rear, including strategic points like Moscow.
