The Municipality of Pomorie is a partner in the project "Energy Poverty in Urban Areas" under the URBACT IV Programme, which aims to exchange experience between European cities to address the problem. The municipal team participates in working meetings in Belgium, where innovative approaches for assessing and supporting vulnerable groups, optimizing electricity bills, and developing an investment plan are presented.

During the period of June 3-5, 2025, representatives of the Municipality of Pomorie participated in working meetings in the Belgian city of Etterbeek (Brussels) on the project "Energy Poverty in Urban Areas" under the URBACT IV Program. The project, co-financed by the EU, aims to exchange experience between the partners - the Municipality of Pomorie, the EMSV Getafe organization from Spain, the Municipality of Maia from Portugal, the Municipality of Etterbeek from Belgium, and the Municipality of Trikala from Greece.

During the meetings, the hosts from Etterbeek presented their social service agencies Log'Iris and Régie Foncière, which work to assess and support vulnerable groups such as the elderly, single parents, and minorities. Site visits to social housing were also made. The leading expert from the URBACT funding program, Klemen Strmšnik, and the leading partner, Fernando González, provided guidance on the inclusion of vulnerable groups, optimization of electricity bills, and the development of an investment plan.

Within the framework of the international EmPowerIngUs network, the Municipality of Pomorie will identify hidden energy poverty in the city, as well as related issues such as local energy and transport poverty, vulnerable households, and micro-enterprises. Among the final goals are the creation of a Development Plan and an Investment Plan, which will serve for future projects.
