Minister Stankov: Bulgaria is establishing itself as a technological and energy hub in Southeastern Europe

At a meeting with representatives of leading American and Bulgarian companies, Minister Zhecho Stankow stated that the main goal of the government is not only the production of energy, but also the creation of conditions for sustainable economic growth. Bulgaria must attract investors who will stay, create jobs and develop industries with a future.

The focus of the discussion was the technological solutions in the field of nuclear energy, offered by the American company GE Vernova/GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. The possibility of building small modular nuclear reactors BWRX-300, which could complement the current project for two AP1000® reactors of Westinghouse, was presented. These small capacities could provide long-term stable, predictable, affordable and low-emission electricity production in the country.

The small modular reactors would also support the concept of creating data centers and gigafactories related to artificial intelligence, as part of the efforts to establish Bulgaria as a technology and energy hub in Southeastern Europe. Representatives of GE Vernova/GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy highly valued the investment potential of Bulgaria and the opportunities for joint work in strategic areas with high added value.

Representatives of the US Embassy in Bulgaria were also present at the meeting, who confirmed the readiness of the US Eximbank to provide financial support for the projects of GE Vernova/GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy in Bulgaria. Minister Stankow emphasized that the state will provide full administrative assistance to any investor interested in the development of high-tech projects in the country.
