The early hours of June 13, 2025 marked the beginning of a large-scale military operation called "Crushing Lion", which Israel undertook against Iran. The main objective of the action was to eliminate senior Iranian military commanders, including the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the commander-in-chief of the army, as well as to destroy air defense systems, radars, and a nuclear facility in Natanz.
To carry out the operation, Israel closed its airspace, called up reservists, and declared a state of emergency in the rear. The population was instructed to remain near protective facilities. The Israeli air defense began intercepting Iranian drones directed towards Israeli territory, and Jordan reported the interception of missiles and drones over its territory.
In response, Iran declared a "state of war" and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned of "severe consequences" for Israel, and Tehran also threatened the United States for any potential involvement. The Iranian government strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an "unforgivable crime" and accused Israel, supported by the United States.
The international reaction was mixed. The United Kingdom stated that it will not intervene directly in the defense of Israel, while countries such as Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates called for de-escalation. Egypt is closely monitoring the situation and considering economic consequences, including in the energy sector.
Israel announced that the operation may continue for several weeks, and the reservists remain on combat readiness. U.S. President Donald Trump promised that the United States will defend Israel, but also called for the resumption of dialogue with Iran if Tehran adopts a peaceful approach.
