Teams from the Black Sea Basin Directorate (BSBD) - Varna and the Regional Laboratory - Varna at the Executive Environment Agency conducted an inspection and sampling of seawater in the areas of Durankulak, Shabla and Kaliakra. The inspection was led by the director of the BSBD, Eng. Yavor Dimitrov, and is part of an intensified control along the Black Sea coast in connection with possible consequences of the military actions in Ukraine. The collected samples will be analyzed for the presence of oil products, heavy metals and pesticides - indicators of marine environment pollution. The main purpose of the analysis is to determine whether the military conflict is affecting the quality of seawater in the Bulgarian Black Sea waters. The results of the studies will be announced in a timely manner by the BSBD.
