The upcoming temporary suspension of traffic on the Danube Bridge in Ruse is part of the ongoing major renovation of the facility, which began on July 10, 2024. So far, 413 meters of the two lanes of the bridge have been renovated, and currently the next 320 meters in the lane towards Bulgaria are being rehabilitated. Repair work is carried out daily, with traffic passing in both directions in the lane where no work is being done.
The upcoming traffic stoppage on June 12 from 8 pm to June 13 at 4 am is necessary for emergency repairs to a joint in the unrenovated section of the bridge. This will ensure the safety of travel until the start of the main construction work in this section.
The section of the Danube Bridge on Bulgarian territory, which is part of road I-2, has a total length of 1.057 km. Since its commissioning in 1954, no major renovation has been carried out. More than 22 years ago, the joints were reinforced, and in 2011 the waterproofing and asphalt pavement were replaced.
The technical project for the renovation of the facility provides for a complete replacement of the asphalt layers, panels, waterproofing, barrier systems, markings, and other activities. The Road Infrastructure Agency apologizes to drivers for the inconvenience, but the repair work is necessary and urgent.
Up-to-date information on the repair work can be found in the special section "Information on the renovation of the Danube Bridge" on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
