During the period of May 27-31, 2025, the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision (DAMTN) carried out a campaign inspection of various types of children's toys offered on the market throughout the country. Inspectors from the General Directorate "Market Surveillance" at DAMTN inspected products intended for play or other purposes for children under the age of 14.
A total of 237 types of toys were inspected, and it was found that 99 of them met the requirements. However, for 138 (58%) of the inspected products, discrepancies were found. Among them, 62 types did not have the mandatory "CE" conformity marking, 105 types did not contain the name and address of the manufacturer and importer, 62 types lacked instructions for use and safety information in Bulgarian, 62 types were not equipped with warning texts, and 10 types had other discrepancies, including the lack of mandatory information on maintaining hygiene for toys for children under 36 months.
The campaign conducted in 2025 shows better results compared to 2024, when non-compliant products were 66% of those inspected. The reduction in the share of low-quality toys is due to the increased consumer culture and awareness of parents, as well as the increased responsibility of economic operators offering these goods on the market.
Administrative and penal measures have been taken against the responsible persons for the established violations, and orders have been issued to stop the distribution of products without the "CE" marking. DAMTN will continue to carry out inspections to prevent the offering of children's toys that do not comply with the requirements.
