The literary festival in Burgas opened its doors for the second consecutive edition on June 5, 2025. The event began with poetry readings by the poets Petya Dubarova and Hristo Fotev. On the first day, works by writers from Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine, and Romania were presented, including Tudor Ganya, Ayse Ovur, Ertyug Yuchar, Ivan Stankov, Pavlo and Viktoria Matyusha, Nana Abuladze, and Zviad Kvaratskhelia.
The Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, emphasized the importance of the festival for the city's candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2032. "Words build bridges, words bring peace, words create friendships, and I and my team feel the need to fulfill this function against violence and war. This festival shows that the important people in society are the people of knowledge, of words, and of culture," Nikolov said.
On the first day, literature enthusiasts also met with the writer Georgi Gospodinov. On June 6 and 7, numerous professional panels are planned, with authors, publishers, and translators from different countries participating. The topics will cover children's literature, literary tourism, the relationship between literature and politics, the messages of freedom and empathy in literature, as well as the prospects for publishers.
Special meetings with authors are planned with Kapka Kasabova, Katya Antonova, Viktoria Beshliiska, and Zahari Karabashliev. Within the framework of the festival, lectures will also be given by Rati Mujiri and Nermin Molaoglu.
The Black Sea International Literary Festival is held with the support of the Municipality of Burgas and is an important cultural initiative that contributes to the establishment of Burgas as a significant literary center in the region.
