Burgas hosts the third eco-innovative camp for sustainable urban development

The third edition of the eco-innovative camp in Burgas was held at the Expo Center "Flora" and gathered students from 13 Burgas schools and high schools. The event is part of the project "Reassessment of climate neutrality and the quality of the urban environment in European coastal cities" (Re-Value), implemented by the Municipality of Burgas and financed under the Horizon Europe Program.

The Deputy Mayor of Burgas, Mihail Nenov, welcomed the participants, who are united around the cause of a sustainable way of life and climate-adapted urban development. The interest in the initiative was shown by over 80 students from the National English High School "Goethe", the American English High School "Geo Milev", the Professional High School of Mechanical Electrotechnics and Electronics, the High School of Architecture and Civil Engineering "Kolyo Ficheto", the Trade High School and others.

The camp program offers a variety of activities - from thematic panels and field lessons to intensive work on a real case study. Participants will be challenged to develop their ideas for creating an interactive exhibition space dedicated to a sustainable way of life and adaptation to climate change, as part of the transformation of the "Mladost" sports hall into a multifunctional, green, educational and community hub.

The project "Innovative Restoration Measures in Response to Urban Health and Inclusion Challenges" (RELAUNCHTOWIN), financed under the EUI - Innovative Actions program, envisages a complete renovation of the "Mladost" sports hall and its transformation into a nearly zero-energy building, a rethinking of the interior design and the creation of new functional spaces. In addition to the renovation of the building, the project activities also include the revitalization of the surrounding public spaces through the creation of community gardens and urban agriculture zones.

The project aims to widely engage the community, including children and youth, pensioner and sports clubs, people with special needs, non-governmental organizations, teachers and educators.
