Minister Georg Georgiev emphasized that the main challenge to the security architecture in Europe and the international rule of law is the Russian military aggression in Ukraine. He recalled that as an active member of the EU and NATO, Bulgaria consistently supports Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and is one of the main donors of aid. Georgiev highlighted the efforts of the Trump administration to stop the aggression and achieve a just and sustainable peace through negotiations, emphasizing that nothing about Ukraine should be decided without Ukraine.
The Minister emphasized that in parallel with the military aggression, Russia is also conducting a targeted information war against the democratic values and institutions of the EU, with the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans being specific targets of hybrid activities and cyber threats. In this context, Georgiev emphasized that the European integration of the Western Balkans remains a strategic goal for Bulgaria.
Regarding the crisis in the Middle East, the Minister emphasized that the strategic partnership with the United States is important for achieving a just and sustainable solution to the conflict. He also informed the attendees about Bulgaria's priority foreign policy goal - accession to the OECD, as a logical continuation of efforts to build a modern democratic society and a thriving market economy.
