The Third Plenary Session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Bulgaria and Hungary was successfully completed, during which a bilateral protocol was signed, confirming the strategic partnership between the two countries. The document was signed on the Bulgarian side by the Minister of Economy and Industry Petăr Dilov, and on the Hungarian side by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, head of the Hungarian delegation.
The two ministers expressed the desire of the countries to deepen economic cooperation. During the session, held in Sofia, a wide range of topics were discussed, including the development of infrastructure projects, support for innovation and sustainable energy solutions, promotion of digital transformation, and improvement of the investment climate.
Minister Dilov emphasized that the economic relations between Bulgaria and Hungary are stable, but have the potential for even more dynamic development. He noted that despite global challenges, bilateral trade in 2024 reached €2.29 billion, and Bulgarian exports to Hungary grew by over 4%. According to Dilov, these data reflect real potential that needs to be developed strategically.
The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, stated that trade relations are developing very well and the success of economic cooperation between the two countries is evident. During the session, opportunities for deepening cooperation in areas such as machinery, automotive industry, green technologies, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry were discussed.
Minister Dilov emphasized the importance of institutional dialogue as a mechanism for structuring long-term policies. "The Commission is not just a platform for information exchange - it is a symbol of trust, strategic partnership, and mutual respect between our two countries," he said.
During the plenary session, the two ministers also opened a Bulgarian-Hungarian Business Forum, which brought together representatives of over 60 leading companies from both countries, organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. After the commission meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of sports was also signed between the two countries.
