Bulgarian politicians sent greetings to the Muslim community on the occasion of the holy holiday "Kurban Bayram" – the greatest Muslim holiday, entirely connected with the power of faith, mercy and forgiveness. It is also traditionally marked by the completion of the Hajj – the pilgrimage to the holy city of "Mecca".
The Prime Minister: "The power of mercy and empathy"
Prime Minister "Rumen Radev" sent his most sincere well-wishes for health, peace and prosperity to all Bulgarian Muslims, quoted by the government press service. "The holiday reminds us of the power of mercy, empathy and care for one's neighbor – values that are the foundation of our society".
He emphasized that "Bulgaria is a bright example of peaceful and harmonious coexistence between different religions and traditions, built upon mutual respect and understanding". "I am convinced that the Muslim community will continue to be an important factor for dialogue, tolerance and unity in our country," stated Radev and added: "May the holiday bring joy, peace and hope into your homes and hearts".
Mihaela Dotsova: "A holiday of kindness and sharing"
The Speaker of Parliament "Mihaela Dotsova" also congratulated Muslims at the beginning of the plenary session. "I would like to send my best wishes to all Bulgarian Muslims who are marking one of their most significant holidays – Kurban Bayram. This holiday is an expression of human kindness, sharing, mercy and forgiveness, as well as understanding and empathy for those in need," she said.
"We wish everyone peace, harmony in families and prosperity. Happy Kurban Bayram," added Dotsova from the podium of the National Assembly.
Delyan Peevski: "To be a community not only by name, but by humanity"
The leader of "DPS" "Delyan Peevski" also addressed Bulgarian Muslims on the occasion of the holiday. "In the days of Kurban Bayram, homes are filled with warmth, tables are shared, and hearts open to forgiveness and kindness".
"Today, more than ever, we need to be a community not only by name, but by humanity, because a nation is strong not when it is divided into 'us' and 'them', but when it stands side by side in difficult moments," said Peevski.
"May this holy holiday bring us together around the most important values: respect between people, mercy, mutual support and peace," he urged. Peevski wished the celebrants health, prosperity, peace in every home and hope in every heart: "May the good we give today turn into the tomorrow's unity of our society".
Boyko Borisov: "To live in understanding and respect"
The leader of "GERB" "Boyko Borisov" also congratulated the holiday on his social media profile. "Happy Kurban Bayram to all Muslim friends," he wrote.
"Let the holiday remind us how important it is to live in understanding and respect," said Borisov and wished the celebrants much health and happiness. "Bulgaria has always been an example of tolerance between different ethnicities and religions and it is our duty to continue to live like this in the future," he emphasized.
The tradition of the kurban: sharing with the poorer
In the spirit of the holiday, everyone who has the opportunity slaughters an animal for kurban. The tradition dictates that the meat be divided into seven parts – one of them remains for the family, and the rest are distributed to the poorer and those in need.
