On June 18, we can expect unstable weather with scattered showers and thunderstorms, lower temperatures, and stronger winds along the coast – calling for increased caution for those swimming in the sea.

On June 18, the weather across the country will be variable, with typical early-summer alternating sunny hours and periods of rain and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain within summer ranges, but with a slight cooling compared to the hottest days, while stronger winds and increased sea turbulence are expected along the Black Sea coast, requiring caution when swimming.

Burgas and the region

In Burgas and the region, the day will start with variable cloudiness, with sunny hours until noon, while in the afternoon clouds will increase with a higher probability of short-lived showers and thunderstorms. The maximum temperature in the city will be around 25°C, and the minimum around 18°C, creating a feeling of relatively comfortable but unstable weather.

The probability of precipitation in Burgas and the coastal area increases in the afternoon and evening hours, reaching about 60%, and in some places, the rain may be of moderate intensity. A wind from the northeast sector is expected with a speed between 6–9 m/s, occasionally feeling quite strong, especially in open areas of the coastline.

The seawater temperature near Burgas will be around 23–24°C, which remains pleasant for swimming, but in combination with stronger winds and sea state 2–3, conditions will not be completely calm. The preliminary safety assessment for swimming along the Burgas coast for June 18 is yellow flag – swimming is possible, but with increased caution, especially for children and less confident swimmers.

Sofia and Western Bulgaria

In Sofia and the western regions of the country, the day will start with sunny and partly cloudy periods, but in the afternoon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop. In many areas, there will be short-lived rain showers and thunderstorms, locally more intense. Maximum temperatures in the Sofia field will be around 24–26°C, and in the lower parts of Western Bulgaria – between 26 and 29°C.

The probability of precipitation and thunderstorm phenomena in the western half of the country is about 50–70%, with the events being more frequent in the afternoon and evening hours. The wind will be light to moderate, oriented from the northwest, with a speed most often between 3 and 7 m/s, with possible temporary strengthening during storms. In these areas, there are no sea waters for swimming, but conditions in the mountains and in open spaces require attention to lightning activity.

Eastern Bulgaria excluding the Burgas region

In Eastern Bulgaria, including the northeastern regions and the interior of the country towards the Black Sea coast, the weather will remain unstable, but with more sun in the hours before noon. In the afternoon, cloudiness will develop with isolated short-lived showers and thunderstorms, more likely in the interior, while along the coast itself the precipitation will be more limited and shorter.

Daytime temperatures in the eastern part will be between 25 and 28°C, and a little lower in the high fields. The wind will be moderate, mainly from the northeast, with a speed of about 5–9 m/s, with more noticeable gusts in open fields and along the coast. Under these conditions, the seawater remains relatively warm – about 22–24°C along the northern Black Sea coast, but with moderate sea state, which suggests a more cautious attitude towards swimming.

The Mountains

In the mountains above the country, the weather will be dynamic, with rapid development of cumulus clouds in the afternoon and an increased probability of short-lived showers, thunderstorms, and locally strong wind gusts. Before noon there will be more sun on the ridges, but afterwards conditions will deteriorate, especially in the massifs of Western and Central Bulgaria.

Expected maximum temperatures in the high parts will be around 14–16°C at 1200 m and around 7–9°C at 2000 m, and in combination with the wind, it will feel cooler. The wind in the high parts will be moderate to strong, mainly from the northwest, with a speed often above 8–10 m/s, and in thunderstorm zones – with temporary strengthening. Under these conditions, it is recommended to avoid long hikes on open ridges in the afternoon hours.

Black Sea coast

Along the entire Black Sea coast, the day will start with more sun and variable cloudiness, and in the afternoon and evening, an increase in cloudiness is expected with possible short-lived showers, in some places accompanied by thunderstorms. Temperatures in coastal cities will be between 24 and 27°C, with the northern coast being 1–2 degrees fresher compared to the southern resorts.

The seawater temperature along the Black Sea coast will be in the range of 22–24°C, which creates comfortable conditions for swimming from the point of view of the feeling in the water. The sea state will be about 2–3, with a tendency to slightly increase along the southern coast in the afternoon hours. The wind will be moderate from the northeast, with a speed of 6–9 m/s, with occasional stronger gusts, especially along capes and open beaches.

The preliminary general assessment for the safety of swimming along the Black Sea coast for June 18 is predominantly a "yellow flag" – swimming is allowed, but with increased caution, especially for children, the elderly, and less experienced swimmers. Local lifeguard teams will update the signaling on-site according to the real situation during the day.

Overall, June 18 will be a day with typical early-summer weather – with alternating sun and short, but in places intense showers, with stronger winds at sea and a more cautious attitude towards mountain hikes and swimming in the open sea.
