The upcoming restrictions on the movement of heavy trucks over 20 tons will affect the territory of 9 regions in Northern Bulgaria - Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Lovech and Gabrovo. The ban will be in effect from June 24 to 27, between 13:00 and 21:00, when temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees.
The movement of trucks over 20 tons will be restricted on several key road sections in the region. On the "Hemus" motorway, the restrictions will affect the section between the 310th and 375th kilometers, on the territory of the Shumen and Targovishte regions. On the first-class road I-2 "Ruse - Varna", the restrictions will cover the sections in the Ruse, Razgrad and Shumen regions, from the 12th to the 146th kilometer.
In the regions of Pleven, Lovech and Veliko Tarnovo, the movement will be restricted on the first-class road I-3, in the section from the 7th to the 170th kilometer, after the road junction for the village of Strahilovo to the area of Yablanitsa. Restrictions will also be in place on the first-class road I-4 from Koritna to Shumen, passing through Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte and Shumen, as well as on the first-class road I-5 "Ruse - Gabrovo", in the section from the 6th to the 115th kilometer, in the Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo regions.
Trucks over 20 tons will not be able to move on the first-class road I-7 "Silistra - Shumen", on the territory of the two regions. Restrictions will also be introduced on the road II-55 "Debelets - Predela - Garkovo", in the section from Debelets to the village of Mishemorkov han, within the boundaries of the Veliko Tarnovo region.
The stoppage of heavy traffic at certain hours is being undertaken to minimize the risks of deformation of the road surface and to ensure the safety of travelers. When traffic is stopped, trucks will wait outside the roadway, without interfering with other road users. The restrictions do not apply to vehicles transporting perishable foods, temperature-controlled cargoes, live animals and dangerous goods.
The Road Infrastructure Agency calls on drivers to drive carefully, to obey the traffic rules and not to use the emergency lanes on the motorways to accelerate their movement in case of heavy traffic, as this hinders the passage of vehicles with a special driving regime in case of an incident.
