Exciting news for Bulgaria and the Eurozone shook social media after the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, officially presented the design of the Bulgarian euro coins. In a third consecutive post on her "Facebook" profile, Lagarde lifted the curtain on the appearance of the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 euro cent coins.
This move represents a significant step in Bulgaria's process of joining the Eurozone, with the preliminary design presentation aiming to generate interest and inform the public. In her post, Lagarde explained that while the coins themselves will not enter circulation immediately, their preview offers an opportunity to see the beauty of the national side, which was chosen by the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).
According to the ECB President, the selected symbols are not just design elements; they are deeply rooted in Bulgaria's cultural heritage and are treasured by its people. This approach ensures continuity with the current Bulgarian coins, which is key to facilitating the transition.
The August 30 post is the last in a series dedicated to the Bulgarian euro coins. It follows two previous posts that revealed the designs of the higher denomination coins. On August 13, Lagarde presented the 1 euro coin, whose national side is decorated with the image of St. Ivan Rilski, and on August 22, she showed the design of the 2 euro coin, which depicts St. Paisiy Hilendarski.
