A delegation from Burgas State University "Prof. Dr Asen Zlatarov" has visited the Fire Safety Academy in Poland under the Erasmus+ programme, the university said. The two sides discussed sharing knowledge and good practice, joint research projects, student placements and more academic exchanges under the programme.
The visit came at the invitation of the Polish partners, who themselves visited the university's Department of Technologies, Materials and Materials Science (TMMS) from 13 to 18 July 2026. The university did not say exactly when the Burgas lecturers were in Poland.
Prof. Dr Sevdalina Turmanova, deputy rector for teaching, led the delegation. She travelled with Assoc. Prof. Dr Yancho Hristov, dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr Dimitrina Kiryakova, head of the TMMS department. Department lecturers Chief Assistant Dr Milena Miteva-Petrova, Chief Assistant Dr Desislava Nikolova and Chief Assistant Dr Ganka Kolchakova were also in the group.
Chief Assistant Antonia Ilieva from the Department of Chemical Technologies, occupational health and safety expert Stoyanka Stoyanova and Ina Madzharov, a technical assistant in the TMMS department, also went to Poland.
Prof. Viktor Gabrovski, deputy rector for teaching at the Polish academy, welcomed the guests. Representatives of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS) and of AMIKOM Yogyakarta University in Indonesia also attended the international meeting.
The Burgas lecturers presented the university and the TMMS department and shared experience with their partners in education and science. They toured the academy's materials science labs and its labs for chemical, environmental and medical risks. They also saw the labs where staff test and assess new materials for specialist equipment and gear used in emergencies.
In October, Burgas State University signed an agreement with ASOMI College of Sciences in Malta for joint programmes and double degrees. Rector Prof. Dr Sotir Sotirov signed the document in Valletta on 10 October.
The university says the visit lays the ground for a closer partnership with the Polish academy and for joint work in science, education and safety. It gave no timeframe for these plans.

Ама че "общи научни проекти"! Академия за пожарна безопасност в Полша… сещам се как ще си разменим знанията. Дано поне да не ни изпратят да гасим пожари там, като гледам какво става у нас понякога!
