Prosecutors have charged a 25-year-old driver over a crash on the Sofia ring road in April 2025 that killed another motorist. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office sent the indictment to the Sofia City Court. The man is charged with causing death by negligence in the crash on 19 April 2025, the prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say he was driving a car from the village of Svetovrachene towards the village of Lokorsko at about 2:57am. Near the lorry car park he reached 165 km/h in heavy rain, poor visibility and darkness. In those conditions he should not have gone faster than 57 km/h.

His car hit a vehicle ahead of it in the same lane. The driver of that vehicle died at the scene. The indictment says the crash was caused by speed that was not suited to the conditions.

The court has yet to set a date for a preliminary hearing.

At the time, the interior ministry told the BTA news agency that one of the cars had fallen into a ravine. A heavy lorry travelling on the road then hit the other car, with no consequences.
