US President Donald Trump signed a new executive order that bans the entry into the country of citizens from 12 countries deemed "threatening". This order is similar to the "Muslim ban" imposed by Trump during his first term and is intended to protect the US from "foreign terrorists".
In his statement, Trump referred to the terrorist act committed by an Egyptian in Colorado, even though Egypt is not included in the list of banned countries. The new order prohibits the issuance of visas for new foreign students who wish to study at the prestigious Harvard University, as the president claims they "threaten national security".
The list of the 12 countries whose citizens can no longer enter the US includes Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - the same states affected by the previous "Muslim ban". Trump stated that this is necessary "to protect Americans from foreign terrorists".
The new order has provoked strong reactions from critics, who have described it as "hostile" and "discriminatory" towards Muslims. They emphasized that such measures are not effective against terrorism and only worsen the US's international relations.
Despite the controversy, Trump remains steadfast in his intention to limit foreigners' access to the US, stating that this is of crucial importance for the country's national security.
