National Campaign Reveals Strategies Against Drug Addiction

The Ministry of Health has launched a large-scale national campaign under the impressive motto "Strength is in the Choice", which will cover all 28 regional cities in Bulgaria. The initiative is focused on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which will be marked on June 26.

Prevention and Information Centers (PIC) will organize a large-scale "Open Doors Day", where citizens from different age groups can receive comprehensive information about the risks of psychoactive substance use. The centers offer completely free services, including individual consultations, targeted training, and professional support.

According to the latest European studies, cannabis continues to be the most common illegal substance among young people. The European Web Survey on Drugs (EWSD 2024) statistics show extremely concerning data - 59% of respondents over 18 years old report drug use in the past year.

Experts emphasize the exceptional importance of mental health as a preventive factor against addictions. They recommend a comprehensive approach, including regular physical activity, quality sleep, social support, and meaningful activities as an alternative to destructive behavior.

Visitors to the information centers will receive detailed guidance on the risks of using vape, hookah, energy drinks, snus, laughing gas, and other potentially dangerous substances. Parents will be assisted with specific communication strategies for discussing drugs with their children.

It is impressive that less than 3% of users seek professional help, which further underscores the need for such information campaigns. The goal is not only to inform but also to motivate society towards responsible choice and a healthy lifestyle.
