Burgas Airport has a fully adequate infrastructure and operational capacity to handle the expected increase in passenger traffic during its hosting of Eurovision 2027. The operator, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, which manages the airports in Burgas and Varna, clarified that there are currently no plans for large-scale infrastructure expansion specifically for the needs of the song contest.

The Burgas terminal is designed for peak demand and is prepared to handle up to 21 aircraft movements per hour, with a daily capacity of approximately 50,000 passengers. As the airport operates 24 hours a day, no changes to its schedule are expected. Terminal operations will be precisely adapted to the finalized flight schedule and actual passenger flow, with Fraport emphasizing their extensive experience in managing high-volume seasonal traffic.

At present, the flight schedule for the 2027 summer season has not yet been finalized or published, as airlines are still in the planning phase. Therefore, it is not possible to specify an exact number of additional scheduled or charter flights at this stage. In response to future needs:

  • Burgas Airport is in active discussions with airlines and partners to develop the route network and attract additional services.
  • The need for additional staff will be defined once specific information regarding flight distribution and passenger numbers is received.
  • If necessary, additional resources will be provided in coordination with ground handlers and competent state authorities.

The overall operational plan for hosting Eurovision 2027 will be developed in stages and updated leading up to the event. Once details regarding delegations are received, the airport will develop a specific organization for their arrival, including streamlined procedures, assistance with baggage handling, and transfer logistics, while strictly adhering to aviation security and customs control regulations.

It is important to note that a large-scale rehabilitation of the runway and surrounding areas was carried out at the airport in 2025 and 2026. This investment is worth over 60 million euros and is recognized as the largest private stand-alone investment in airport infrastructure in Bulgaria.

We remind you that Burgas was officially selected as the host of the 2027 Eurovision contest. The decision was announced two days ago during a special press conference attended by the Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, and the Director General of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), Milena Milotinova. The program for the prestigious event schedules the two semi-finals for May 11 and 13, and the grand final for May 15.
