An impressive athletic performance shook the sports world during the prestigious "Golden Gala Pietro Mennea" competition in the Italian capital. The twenty-five-year-old Kenyan runner Beatrice Chebet recorded a remarkable achievement, finishing the 5,000 meters in an exceptional 14:03.69 seconds.
Her performance is a hair's breadth from the historic world record, lagging only 3.5 seconds behind Gudaf Tsegay's peak performance from 1997 (14:00.21). The result not only established a new national record for Kenya but also improved the tournament's previous best time.
The athlete confirmed her exceptional form, coming after her impressive February result of 3,000 meters in Rabat (8:11.56). Her confidence was evident immediately after the finish, when she stated: "I feel that my body is ready for the record - anything is possible".
In the competitive race behind Chebet, Ethiopian athlete Freweyni Hailu finished with a personal result of 14:19.33, followed by Italian Nadia Battocletti, who set a national record of 14:23.15.
The Kenyan's performance not only reinforces her status as a world-class athlete of elite caliber but also opens perspectives for potential historic achievements. Her chances are especially promising before the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo in September.
Sports analysts are already defining Chebet as one of the most promising long-term runners in modern athletics, whose potential has yet to be fully unfolded.
