The Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov announced that in the period from May 29 to June 01, 2025, the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) has carried out over 500 inspections across the country in various commercial establishments. The purpose of the checks was to establish compliance with the legal requirements for labeling the prices of goods and services.
According to the Consumer Protection Act, the price of the goods must be indicated in leva, and the regulations do not exclude the possibility of additional, indicative or reference pricing in another currency, including the euro. Minister Dilov emphasized that the main requirement is to comply with the principle of clarity and transparency, with consumers having the possibility to make payments only in leva.
According to the minister, the inspections found that all products offered for sale to consumers are labeled with final sales prices in leva in accordance with the applicable legislation. However, some retail chains have started double pricing - simultaneously in leva and euros, with payments at the cash register being made only in leva according to the posted price.
Minister Dilov was adamant that in calculating the prices in euros based on the price in leva, the fixed exchange rate in the country - 1.95583 leva per euro - was used. He assured that the Consumer Protection Commission has taken all necessary actions to protect consumers and to stop violations of the legislation.
According to the minister, the government and regulators are already working in parallel on various areas, with one of the main focuses being the memorandum between the business and the state, which will cover training and awareness of employees in commercial establishments.
