Households in western Bulgaria used 19.84% more electricity in the first half of October than in the same days of September, power supplier Elektrohold Prodazhbi said.
The company said the cold snap was the reason. It supplies electricity to end customers in western Bulgaria.
Homes usually use more power when it gets colder, mostly where electricity also heats the home and the water. So Elektrohold Prodazhbi advises customers to look not only at the amount on the bill, but also at how many kilowatt-hours they used.
Every household uses power differently. It depends on how the home and water are heated, how well the home is insulated, the outside temperature, how many appliances there are and how powerful they are, how long they run, and how much time people spend at home.
The company says that comparing with the previous month can mislead in a cold spell, because the weather changes. It recommends comparing the bill with the same period last year, and taking into account any change in heating, new or more powerful appliances, and the number of rooms heated.
Every invoice shows consumption for the current month and the previous 13 months. The same data is available in the e-invoice app.
The energy regulator KEVR launched extra checks in February after many consumers complained of inflated electricity bills for December 2025 and January 2026, BTA recalled.
