Representatives of leading Balkan countries gathered in the Bansko resort complex to discuss prospects for economic cooperation during the fourth edition of the Balkan Business Forum. The forum, organized by multiple chambers of commerce and agencies, attracted experts from eight countries, including Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, and other regional partners.
Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Krasimir Yakimov delivered a key speech, emphasizing the importance of state support for the private sector. He firmly stated that business is the backbone of economic development, creating jobs and generating added value.
In his presentation, Yakimov detailed the new improvements in the investment environment. Recently adopted changes to the Investment Promotion Act drastically simplify administrative procedures. Timelines for reviewing investment proposals have been halved, and application requirements have become more transparent.
The Ministry has an impressive financial resource of around 1 billion leva from European programs to support enterprises. Specific financial instruments include targeted procedures for digitalization of micro and small companies with a budget of 80 million leva, as well as energy efficiency programs for 126 million leva.
Among the most attractive projects is the construction of the first supercomputer in Southeast Europe at Sofia Tech Park. Yakimov also announced ambitious plans to create one of the six artificial intelligence factories in the European Union, which will provide computing power directly to businesses.
The forum demonstrated the strong will of Balkan countries to deepen regional cooperation in the field of innovation and technological development. The presented strategies outline a new horizon for economic integration and technological progress in the region.
