Bulgaria's food safety agency (BABH) stopped two shipments of cucumbers from Turkey at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, the agency said. A total of 7,140 kg was destroyed and did not reach the EU market.

Lab tests found pesticide levels above the legal limit. The first shipment weighed 4,120 kg and the second 3,020 kg.

The agency also stopped two shipments of table grapes from Turkey earlier this month. They too had pesticides above the limit. One weighed 14,100 kg and came in 2,640 crates, the other 19,200 kg in 3,840 crates.

BABH says checks will go on to keep food that fails safety rules off the market.

People who suspect a breach can call the agency's hotline on 0700 12 299 or use the contact form on its official website.
