A bus hit an 80-year-old man on the Sofia–Burgas road, opposite the Metro hypermarket, on the night of 19 October. Burgas regional police said the man was crossing the central guardrail. Doctors found a broken shoulder blade, and his life is not in danger.
The bus hit him at about 02:51 at one of the main entrances to the city, after checkpoint 1.
The injured man is from the village of Zhitosvyat in Karnobat municipality. Police say he stepped onto the road where pedestrians must not cross and was hit as he did so. The guardrail separates the two directions of traffic and is not meant for people.
The bus is a Setra with Dobrich plates. Its front right side hit the man. The driver, a 67-year-old from Burgas, tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
The man was taken to the Heart and Brain hospital. There are no reports of other injuries.
Police did not say why the pedestrian was crossing at this spot in the middle of the night. They also did not say how fast the bus was going or how far away the driver could have seen the man.
