Bulgarian border crossings broke no rules in the case of Iva Mihaylova, and the border control system has no record of her at crossings with North Macedonia, border police chief Anton Zlatanov said on air. North Macedonia is looking for Mihaylova and wants her extradited through Interpol. See our original report: Iva Mihaylova is in Pirogov hospital, police will question her on how she crossed the border.

Border police have already told the North Macedonian authorities that Mihaylova is not recorded at the Bulgarian-North Macedonian crossings. Zlatanov said Bulgaria broke no rules and there is nothing worrying in the case. He said he has an idea of how Mihaylova came to be in Bulgaria, but could not comment on it.

Mihaylova holds both Bulgarian and North Macedonian citizenship. She and her lawyer in Bulgaria, Nikolay Dimitrov, say the two entered the country through a border crossing, and that she showed both her ID cards, the North Macedonian and the Bulgarian. North Macedonia's interior ministry said the border police system there shows no record of Mihaylova leaving the country.

It became known on the morning of 12 October that Mihaylova was in Bulgaria. At 7.38pm on 13 October, the International Operational Cooperation Directorate received a request from Interpol in Skopje to search for, arrest and extradite her, Bulgaria's interior ministry said on 14 October.

A check into the case is under way.
