Iva Mihaylova is at Pirogov hospital in Sofia with her lawyer, interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters. He was speaking at the international conference "The Black Sea and Eastern Europe: a key to Europe's security".
When she is questioned, officials will try to establish whether, when, how and where she crossed the border.
"We will also check whether she needs protection and, if she does, it will be provided," Demerdzhiev said. He said North Macedonia has not contacted the interior ministry.
Mihaylova is charged in North Macedonia with a serious crime that endangers road safety. She also holds Bulgarian citizenship.
One person died and several others, including Mihaylova herself, were hurt in the crash in North Macedonia in early October.
She has spinal injuries, and Bulgaria is among the countries where such treatment is possible, BTA reported. Her documents were taken away after the crash, and without them she cannot get treatment in Bulgaria.
The case against her at the Basic Court in Kochani began on 6 July.
