A Yellow Code for strong winds or ice formation has been declared for today in 16 regions of the country, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) reports on its website.
In the regions of Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Pernik, Sliven, Sofia-city, Sofia-region, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol, the warning meteorological code is for strong wind. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 90 km/h.
Due to strong winds yesterday in the municipality of Samokov, the BG Alert system was activated, and flights at "Vasil Levski" Airport in Sofia were redirected and canceled.
In the Vidin and Montana regions, a Yellow Code has been issued for the formation of ice.
According to the NIMH forecast, cloudy weather will prevail. In places, mainly in Northern Bulgaria and the Rila-Rhodope region, there will be rainfall. In the extreme northwestern regions, the rain will mix and turn into snow. The wind in the eastern half of the country and north of the mountains will be moderate and temporarily strong from the south-southwest. Temperatures there will remain high, the maximums will be up to 14°-16°. In most of the Danubian Plain, the wind will be weak, and in many areas it will subside. Temperatures there will remain without a significant daily course, close to or slightly above 0°. In Sofia, the maximum temperature will be around 12°.
Cloudy weather will prevail on the Black Sea coast, but there will be almost no rainfall. There will be a moderate and temporarily strong wind from the south-southwest.
Cloudy weather will prevail in the mountains. In places there will be snowfall, below 1800 meters - rain. There will be a strong and gusty southwest wind. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around 8°, at 2000 meters - around 2°.
