Prohibitions on intravenous administration
Minister of Health Katya Ivkova stated categorically that the administration of dietary supplements, cosmetic products, or medicines without marketing authorization in Bulgaria is inadmissible. The Law on Medicinal Products in Human Medicine strictly prohibits such practices.
"It is inadmissible for intravenous injections to be performed by unqualified individuals, regardless of whether in a medical facility or outside of one," Minister Ivkova emphasized.
Regulation of advertising and online trade
The legislation provides for strict control over the advertising of medicinal products. Key points:
- Direct or indirect advertising of medicines by persons posing as medical professionals is prohibited.
- Online advertising of prescription-only products is not allowed.
- Internet sales are permitted only for non-prescription products and only by licensed pharmacies or drugstores.
Dangers on the web
The Bulgarian Drug Agency (BDA) has alerted to an increase in cases of illegal online trade. Frequently, the products offered are:
- Without marketing authorization in Bulgaria.
- Of unknown origin.
- Still in the clinical trial stage, which poses a serious risk to patient health.
