Basin Directorate „Black Sea Region“ (BDCR) – Varna is conducting an investigation of water samples from Shabla Lake following reports of dead birds along the Shabla coastline. A follow-up inspection has been carried out jointly with RIEW – Varna, including RZI-Dobrich and experts from the Regional Administration – Dobrich.
The results of the investigations of the samples from Shabla Lake will be announced in a timely manner. The samples taken for avian influenza are negative. „Green Balkans“ are also taking samples from dolphins and birds.
It has been established that the birds are of the endangered species „Mediterranean shearwater“, which is the size of a pigeon and inhabits the open sea, occurring in our latitudes during food migration.
