On Christmas, it will be cloudy with widespread precipitation: in Western and Northern Bulgaria, snow, in the Upper Thracian Lowland and along the Black Sea coast - rain. A snow cover will form, and there will be snowstorms on the mountain passes in the Stara Planina. Drifting snow will also form. Significant amounts of precipitation are expected in the western half of the country and in the Rila-Rhodope region.
With a moderate, in Eastern Bulgaria and strong northeast wind, cold air will continue to flow in, and temperatures will drop. Upon the very influx of cold air in Central Northern Bulgaria, icing is possible. Temperatures will have a reversed daily cycle, and around 2:00 PM they will be from minus 4 to 1 degree Celsius in the northwestern part of the country, up to 2-7 degrees Celsius in Southern Bulgaria and in the extreme eastern regions.
On Friday morning, December 26, the precipitation will stop, at the latest in the Eastern Rhodopes. The wind will weaken. The cloud cover will slowly dissipate, and the temperatures, in most of the country, will be close to zero. In the regions in Northern Bulgaria with snow cover, daytime temperatures will remain negative - up to minus 4 degrees Celsius.
During the weekend, the wind will turn from west-northwest. There will be more significant temporary breaks and decreases in cloud cover to sunny weather. Minimum temperatures will drop - in some areas to minus 8, minus 10 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures will rise - the maximums will be mainly between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius, in the Upper Thracian Lowland to about 10 degrees Celsius.
At the beginning of next week, a new cold snap will begin with a north-northwest wind, which will continue in the following days. The cloud cover will thicken, and on Tuesday, December 30, mainly in Northern Bulgaria and in the mountainous regions, it will snow, predicts meteorologist Anastasia Stoycheva.
