Weather in Bulgaria: Rain, Snow, and Temperature Drop Over the Weekend

Weather forecast for Bulgaria on Sunday: Rain turning to snow in the mountains and Sofia, strong winds, and a drop in temperatures. Overview of conditions on the Black Sea coast, in the mountains, and in the Balkans.

Today, after a short break in the precipitation, it will reactivate from the northwest. In the mountainous regions of Western Bulgaria and the Forebalkan, the rain will mix with snow.

Over Southeastern Bulgaria, there will also be conditions for heavy rainfall, with amounts that can reach up to 20l/sq.m. in places.

The wind over Western and Central Bulgaria will turn from the northwest and will be moderate. In Eastern Bulgaria, it will remain from the southeast throughout the day, and temperatures there will be higher – up to 18–22°C. The maximum temperatures in the northwestern and western regions will be from 6° to 9°C.

Weather on the Black Sea Coast

On Sunday, there will be temporary breaks in the cloud cover. It will be windy but warm. The sea water temperature is around 18–22°C. The sea swell will be 1–2 points.

Weather in the Mountains

The conditions for tourism will be bad! Before noon, the wind will remain from the south-southwest and will strengthen, but in the afternoon it will change direction and will blow from the northwest, and a drop in temperatures will begin. Significant rainfall is expected in Rila, Pirin, and Western Stara Planina. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around 7°C, and at 2000 meters – around 1°C. The boundary between rain and snow will decrease, and by the end of the day in Western Bulgaria, it will be below 1000 meters.

Weather in Sofia

During the day on Sunday, there will be light rain with interruptions, and by the end of the day, with the drop in temperatures, in the southern neighborhoods, the rain will turn into snow. The maximum temperatures will be around 11–12°C, but by the end of the day, they will drop sharply.

Weather in the Balkans

In the coming days, the Balkans will be under the influence of a cyclone located over the central and southwestern parts of the peninsula. Rain will fall in many places over the Southwestern Balkans and the Central parts. Thunderstorms are also expected on the Adriatic coast.
