From July 5 to 8, 2025, between 13:00 and 21:00 hours, strict transport restrictions will be applied to heavy vehicles weighing over 20 tons in seven administrative areas in Bulgaria.
The affected regions include Vidin, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Ruse, Razgrad, and Shumen. Truck drivers will be directed to specific zones outside the roadway, while ensuring passage for other traffic participants.
An important exception to the introduced restrictions are trucks transporting specific goods: perishable food products, temperature-sensitive goods, live animals, and hazardous materials.
The specific road sections with restrictions cover multiple first-class and second-class routes. These include: first-class road I-2 Ruse - Varna, covering the regions of Ruse, Razgrad, and Shumen; road I-3 Byala - Botevgrad in the Strahilovo-Pleven-Radomirtsi section; as well as road I-5 Ruse - Gabrovo - Kazanlak.
Additional restrictions are planned on the Balkan road I-6 in the Kalofer - Kazanlak - Nikolaevo section, road II-66 Stara Zagora - Chirpan, and second-class road II-55 in the Debelets - Predela - Republic Pass section.
The purpose of these strict measures is to prevent potential road surface deformations caused by extreme temperatures exceeding 35 degrees. The institution aims to protect both road infrastructure and the life and health of travelers.
The Road Infrastructure Agency issues explicit recommendations to drivers to drive extremely responsibly, following established rules and avoiding risky maneuvers. Special attention is paid to the prohibition of using emergency lanes on highways.
For current information about road conditions, drivers can get details from the official API website - www.api.bg or call the 24/7 phone number 0700 130 20.
The introduced temporary restrictions are part of a comprehensive management plan for extreme climate conditions, which aims to maximize the protection of traffic participants and road infrastructure.
