The Bulgarian Air Force (BAF) carried out an extremely important humanitarian mission by transporting a critically ill two-year-old child by military aircraft C-27J Spartan. The specialized aeromedical evacuation was carried out at the request of the Ministry of Health.
The team, including four professional military pilots, started the operation at 13:08 from Vasil Levski Airport. The task distribution was precise: Captain Georgi Pashev as commander, Captain Jasmina Hristova as second pilot, Major Miroslav Pipev as onboard engineer, and Senior Lieutenant Kamen Dimitrov as onboard mechanic.
The entire flight, including transporting a medical team from Pirogov University Hospital, took less than four hours. After landing successfully in Sofia, the child was immediately transported by ambulance to a capital city medical facility.
The BAF leadership defined the mission as another proof of the exceptional importance of Spartan aircraft in performing socially significant tasks. In the context of future development, Brigadier General Dimitar Georgiev announced plans to acquire two to three new aircraft, with the price of one amounting to around 75 million euros, including firefighting systems.
This successful flight demonstrates the Bulgarian Air Force's ability to respond quickly and effectively in critical medical situations, turning military equipment into an instrument for saving human lives.
