The Ministry of Defense has activated a large-scale rescue operation to extinguish a spreading fire in the Pirin mountain region. A total of 20 military personnel and four specialized machines are involved in the critical mission to contain the fire.
The operational headquarters is taking coordinated actions to create firebreaks and prevent the spread of flames. Military units, professional firefighters, forestry employees, and volunteer groups are participating in the joint effort.
The military department reported that two heavily armed AS-532 AL Cougar helicopters, based at the Krumovo aviation base, have been put on full combat readiness. The crews are prepared to engage immediately upon official request from the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection".
Yesterday was marked by direct participation of two Cougar helicopters in the direct actions to extinguish the fire in the mountain massif. Multi-agency coordination is a key factor in effectively managing the emergency situation.
The operation demonstrates the high operational readiness of the Bulgarian armed forces to respond quickly and professionally to natural disasters threatening the lives and property of citizens.
