In connection with the introduction of the euro as the official currency in Bulgaria and the resulting technological and technical adjustments, card payments for fines under the Road Traffic Act (ZDvP) will not be accepted via the POS terminal devices installed at the border crossing points on December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026, the Border Police announced.
They clarified that payments will be able to be made by the other methods provided for in the regulations.
Use only official exchange locations – banks or post offices, where the exchange will be free of charge for the first six months, the Ministry of Interior pointed out regarding the official introduction of the euro as a currency in our country from January 1, 2026. It is expected that postal branches will then be patrolled by uniformed officers and police patrols. Teams of the “Security Police” in the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs and the Regional Directorates of the Ministry of Interior will be assisted by the Gendarmerie to maintain public order around post offices throughout the country.
Be careful, protect yourself from scams during the introduction of the euro, the Ministry of Interior warned and urged that if there is suspicion of fraud or other abuse, we should immediately report it on tel. 112 or visit the nearest structure of the ministry.
