Dimo Drenchev, a parliamentary representative from "Vazrazhdane," has proposed a reduction in VAT on fuel to support citizens and businesses without impacting the state budget. Speaking to journalists in the corridors of Parliament, he stated that the group will demand a weekly parliamentary hearing involving those responsible for fuel prices in Bulgaria.
"This week, we submitted a request to hear from the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) and the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC), but it was rejected," Drenchev explained.
The MP noted that the rising price of oil is alarming. According to him, the CCP, the CPC, and the government must take measures such as a VAT adjustment on fuel or a form of subsidies for citizens and businesses. Drenchev warned that if these measures are not discussed, economic activity will decline by the end of the year.
The proposal to change the VAT on fuels could affect petrol and diesel prices for households and businesses in Burgas and the region.
"Vazrazhdane" is a pro-Russian party, described by analysts and the media as anti-European and anti-NATO. Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022, while the EU and Bulgaria support Ukraine and the sanctions against Moscow. Similar measures to support the population due to high fuel prices were also proposed by "Democratic Bulgaria."
