Today marks 153 years since the hanging of Vasil Levski – one of the brightest symbols of Bulgarian statehood, said Elisaveta Belobradova from the parliamentary rostrum in a declaration on behalf of "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB).
Levski spoke of a pure and holy republic not as an abstract idea, but as a concrete form of government, Belobradova pointed out. He understood that the Bulgarian national interest came first, even when the state of Bulgaria did not exist, she commented.
The most important thing we must remember from him is that he dreamed of a state in which we live at the moment, said Belobradova. It has three main characteristics: a free Bulgaria, which we currently have; secondly, a state in which everyone is equal - this is currently our existence; and thirdly, a Bulgaria that is together with the other European peoples, she pointed out. In 2026, with the achievement of the highest degree of integration of Bulgaria within the European Union, we are within the framework of what Levski really dreamed of achieving, Belobradova believes.
If we have achieved everything that the Apostle bequeathed, our true task and our true duty is to defend it to the end – this role of Bulgaria in the heart of Europe and its independence and freedom, said the MP from WCC-DB.
